Walk out the front door and cross over to the dockside park
that connects with Alameda’s extensive Shoreline Trail. Enjoy
jogging, cycling, or just taking a stroll. Pass yachts moored to
their docks, sailboats catching the breeze, seabirds chasing the
clouds, and elegant Victorian homes. Alameda’s trails present
a never-ending spectacle.
Pack a picnic basket and stop for lunch at one of the numerous
parks. Plan on going for a dip in the warm shallow waters
of Crown Beach or watch the sailboats glide over the waves.
Across the estuary sits Jack London Square, with its restaurants,
shops and weekend Artisans’ and Farmers’ markets.
San Francisco is a ferry ride away. Go there to enjoy a night
on the town, a shopping spree, or to wander through North
Beach, China Town, the Financial District, or any of its other
unique neighborhoods.
Alameda is surrounded by marinas and yacht harbors, so expect
to find attractions with a nautical theme. Crab Cove Visitors
Center highlights flora and fauna from the Bay. The Elsie
Roemer Bird Sanctuary is home to aquatic birds and other
salt marsh creatures. The USS Hornet, a World War II aircraft
carrier, is now a floating museum and open to the public.
